Benton, LA Horse Throws and Kills Teen, Sep 1907
On Sunday morning of this week Homer Gardner, the fourteen year old son of Mr. Zack Gardner, was riding a rather spirited horse, which became suddenly unmanagable and threw him with great force against a tree. His skull was crushed in, from the effects of which he died within fifteen minutes. Homer was a favorite with the young people here, where he attended school, and his sad death has cast a gloom over all. His parents and brothers and sisters have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of bereavement. His remains were laid to rest in Cottage Grove Cemetery on Tuesday amid a sorrowing concourse of friends and relatives.
