BRIDGE BURNED AT LAKE CHARLES

Mass Meeting Offers a Reward for the Criminals.

Lake Charles, La., Oct. 23.—(Special)—Eight bents in the Southern Pacific bridge, two miles east, were burned by an incendiary this morning. Manager Van Vleck wired from Houston that the company regarded the act as a result of the mass meeting of citizens relative to enforcing a shotgun quarantine. A mass meeting of 1000 persons was held in the courthouse tonight, which denounced the burning of the bridge and offered a reward for the capture of the criminal. A resolution was offered denouncing the message of Van Vleck as unnecessary and uncalled-for in its reflection on law-abiding citizens of Calcasieu parish. The Southern Pacific was assured that all means would be used to protect its property by the state and local law.
