Georgetown, KY House Fire, Feb 1915
HOME OF WHEELERS IN SCOTT COUNTY BURNED
Four Thousand Dollar Residence on Lemon's Mill Pike Destroyed.
(Special to The Herald)
GEORGETOWN, Ky., Feb. 2.---The attractive home of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wheeler located on the Lemon's Mill Pike about a mile from Georgetown was totally destroyed by fire about eight o'clock Tuesday morning.
Since last Friday the odor of burning had been detected by the family and Monday morning a portion of the upper part of the house was burned, the cause being believed to be a defective flue. It was supposed to have been extinguished with the assistance of the neighbors.
During the night Mrs. Wheeler thought she still smelled smoke and investigated without success. This morning the whole building was consumed, although most of the contents were saved. The house was valued at about $4,000 and was insured for $3,000. The furniture was insured for $800. The Wheelers have taken the Claude Garth home place, and will live there until a new home is built.
