Pineville, KY Auto Plunges Off Cliff, Apr 1955

THREE YOUTHS DIE WHEN CHASED CAR PLUNGES OFF CLIFF.

Pineville, Ky., April 8 - (AP) - Three youths rode their wildly skidding automobile to death over a 100-foot drop early today at the end of a high-speed police chase.
The victims were identified as:
FRANKLIN MIDDLETON, 22;
HAROLD MILLER, 20;
and CLARENCE FUSON, 18, all of Blanche, near Pineville.
The car dropped upside-down in a creek. Deaths were attributed to drowning.
Pineville police reported they saw the car zig-zagging down a street and started pursuit. Once during the chase, they said, the patrol car was crowded off a road. Later three shots were fired from the youths' automobile. Officers said they did not return the fire.
About a mile from Pineville, officers said, the pursued car hit a ditch and skidded right and left for about 125 feet, turned over, skidded another 60 feet and then plunged over the precipice.
