Distillery Burns, Loss Is $2,250,000

OWENSBORO, Ky., Nov. 12 (AP)—A wild fire raged out of control Saturday night at the Glenmore Distillery, one of the largest in the country.

Company officials had small hope of saving the plant from complete destruction.

An unofficial canvas of insurance men placed the loss already at $2,225,000.

Flames roared through three warehouses, the bottling plant and the company office and was enveloping the distillery building.

The plant covers four city blocks and employs 700 persons.

$2,000,000 Distillery Fire Leaves 1 Injured

Owensboro, Ky., Nov. 12.—(AP)—Fire of undetermined cause tonight swept through a section of the Glenmore distillery, one of the largest in the country, razing five buildings and destroying thousands of barrels of whisky. More than 50 firemen from four towns battled the flames for five hours.

James Pendleton, managing editor of the Owensboro Messenger said unofficial estimates of insurance men placed the loss at between $2,000,000 and $3,000,000. One fireman was injured when a barrel of whisky exploded knocking him to the floor. He was removed to a hospital.
