CHILD FALLS INTO OLD WELL AND IS DROWNED

Eugene Herbold Accidentally Killed While On Visit To Aunt

While on a visit to his aunt, Mrs. John M. Young, of Jeffersontown, Eugene Francis Herbold, 5 years old, fell into an abandoned well and was drowned at 7:15 o'clock last night. The child had been playing in the yard at Mrs.Young's place and she noticed his absence. After searching the place for a time Mrs. Young noticed the boards covering the well had been displaced. Becoming alarmed she called several neighbors, and the body of the child was found at the bottom of the well. The water was only a few feet deep. Neighbors recovered the body and Drs. Blankenbaker and Stucky were called. The physicians worked for more than an hour in an endeavor to resuscitate the child. Coroner Carter was called and pronounced death accidental Eugene Herbold was the only son of John and Anne Herbold, 1901 West Broadway. His father is a furniture dealer at 1901 West Broadway. Several weeks ago the child's grandfather died. Arrangements have not been made for the funeral.

HERBOLD - Suddenly, April 18, 1918, Eugene Herbold, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Herbold (nee Guelda), aged 5 years. Funeral this (Saturday) morning from the residence, 1829 West Broadway, at 11:30 and 11:45 from Sacred Heart Church, Seventeenth and Broadway. Interment in St. Louis Cemetery.
