SEVEN DEAD, TWO DYING.

FATAL EXPLOSION OF DYNAMITE IN A PIT NEAR MURRAY, KY.

Mayfield, Ky., Feb. 23. -- At the town of Murray, southeast of here, seven negroes were instantly killed in a gravel pit this morning by the explosion of fifty pounds of dynamite. The negroes were seated around a fire in the pit playing a game of cards. One of the negroes emptied some sawdust containing a dynamite cap on the blaze, which exploded, igniting the box of dynamite. One negro was sitting on the box of the deadly explosive, and his body was torn literally to pieces. All of the other bodies were horribly mangled. About eight others standing nearby were badly injured.

TOM GUTHRIE.
Fatally injured:
FRANK HARDIN.
JIM GARDNER.
