PLANE FALLS AND TWO DIE IN WRECKAGE.
CRAFT WAS HANDLED BY FORMER MONTANA PILOT; HE ESCAPES WITH INJURIES.
Salina, Kan., July 14. -- (AP) -- STUART S. KELLY and D. E. SPILLMAN, both of Salina, were instantly killed here Sunday evening when a plane piloted by JACK HIDECKER fell near here.
HIDECKER was taken from the plane unconscious by residents of the district who rushed to the plane when it landed within 100 yards of several residences. Sections of the plane had to be chopped away before the bodies could be removed.
Persons who were watching the plane just before the accident said it fell from a height of about 500 feet after failing to make a vertical bank.
The plane was a Lincoln-Paige, with an OX-5 motor and owned by Verne Maupin who used the plane in a passenger carrying service. HIDECKER came here a year ago from Montana to act as pilot.
