BURNING OF A NORMAL SCHOOL BUILDING.

Topeka, Kansas, Oct. 28. -- The state normal school building at Emporia was burned Saturday morning. The fire broke out at 3 o'clock and spread so rapidly that nothing was saved. C. M. POMEROY, the principal, lost his valuable library, furniture, etc. All day Friday, there was an odor of gas throughout the building. MR. POMEROY made a careful examination and found the coal in the building (seventy-five tons) in a heated condition, and had the janitor, with some help, shovel it over to cool it off. At 11 o'clock at night the janitor left his work, feeling that everything was safe. The building cost $88,000, and had not a farthing of insurance.
