Little Walnut Grove, IA Drowning, Jun 1860
A Man and Team Drowned. -- Yesterday morning a Mr. Brown, who lived on the Randolph Bennet [or Bonnol] farm near Little Walnut Grove, was drowned in Mud Creek. It appears that he was riding in a wagon in company with a German neighbor, when in crossing Mud Creek, which in ordinary times is a shallow stream, but at this time was very high from the heavy rains of Wednesday night, the German's team and Mr. Brown were drowned. The German swam out. We understand that the latter did not wish to attempt the fording, but Brown, insisted that "he knew the stream and there was no danger," and took the lives and drove in and was drowned.
