Ablington, IA Train Crashes Through Bridge, Nov 1889

A FATAL WRECK.

AN ENGINEER AND FIREMAN KILLED NEAR DUBUQUE.

Dubuque, Nov. 25. -- Sunday at 5:20 p.m. an east-bound freight train on the Illinois Central at Ablington, 122 miles west of Dubuque, with two engines, reached a bridge thirty feet long over a dry run, undergoing repairs. The forward engineer failed to notice the red flag. His engine crossed safely, but the tender went down, also the rear engine and several cars loaded with Sioux Falls granite.
Engineer DUBOIS and Fireman LACY of the rear engine were killed.
Trains ran this morning via the B.C. & N. & Cedar Rapids.
