Tipton, IA School Bus And Truck Collision, Jan 1947

1 DEAD AND 15 HURT IN WRECK OF SCHOOL BUS.

Tipton, Iowa -- BETTY STOLTE, 17, senior in Tipton High School, was killed and 15 other students were hurt when the Tipton school bus was involved in a collision near Tipton Monday morning.
Sheriff Pete Willey said the bus had stopped to pick up students when a semi-trailer, driver by RICHARD KNEE of Peoria, Ill., skidded and drew up alongside the bus.
Another semi-truck operated by WILLIAM EACRET, also of Peoria, rounded a turn and crashed into the rear of the school bus, which was operated by LARS LARSON, Willey said.
Poor visibility and slippery roads made it impossible for the trucks to stop in time, Willey reported.
