Decorah, IA Private Plane Crash, Apr 1976
THREE PERISH IN PRIVATE PLANE CRASH.
Decorah, IA -- An Illinois couple and their physician were killed in the crash north of Decorah when their single-engine plane crashed in a wooded area on the Lloyd Hansen farm about 5 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.
Winneshiek County Sheriff Eugene Simenson identified the victims as ROMER FRANZEN, 62, and his wife, DOROTHY, 59, and DR. CLARA HANSTROM, 86.
Authorities said FRANZEN was piloting the plane from Rochester, Minn., to Rockford when the accident occurred. FRANZEN was the owner of the Midland Dimold Co. a tool manufacturing firm in Rockford. HANSTROM was a general practitioner in Rockford.
The plane, a single-engine Comanche, apparently exploded in mid-air, scattering debris over a 300-yard strip, Simenson said.
