Fighting the Fire The School Burns

STUDENTS ESCAPE FIRE.

Bloomington, Ind. (UPI) -- Fire broke out in Central Junior High School today, shortly before classes were scheduled to convene.
Only a few of 700 pupils enrolled in the school just south of the business district were in the building when the blaze was discovered. All got out safely.
The blaze burst out of control quickly and resisted efforts of firemen to prevent destruction of the building. All available firemen and fire-fighting units were rushed to the scene.
The school was the former Bloomington High School. It was an old brick structure located on the original site of Indiana University buildings which were destroyed by fire in the late 1800s.
Preliminary reports indicated the fire may have started on the stage of the school auditorium.
