CAR HITS TRAIN; MOTHER AND DAUGHTER DIE.

Cedar Lake, Ind. (AP) - A mother and her teenage daughter died Friday morning after an Amtrak passenger train crashed into a minivan they were riding in.
DEBORAH C. PARKS, 42, and LINDSEY PARKS, 15, both of Cedar Lake, were killed in the crash, according to The Times of northwest Indiana. DEBORAH PARKS was a nurse at St. Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, and LINDSEY PARKS was a freshman at Hanover Central High School.
Police said the mother failed to stop at a stop sign posted at the crossing, and the northbound train struck her minivan about 7:40 a.m. There are no other traffic control devices at the rural crossing north of Cedar Lake.
Police said the train, driven by engineer Greg Aronson of Chicago, was traveling about 77 mph, which was below the speed limit.
Aronson was not cited for any violations.
