Night Dress Ignites as She Attempts to Stir up Fire - Condition May Be Serious

Mrs. Mary TINDER, aged eighty-four, mother of Claude Tinder, sustained painful burns early this morning at her home in Cortland. When she arose she started to stir up the fire and her night robe ignited. She was unable to extinguish the flames and the garment was burned from her body. She called for help and persons living in the same house went to her assistiance.

Mrs. TINDER sustained deep burns on the right arm and shoulder. Her back was also burned. Her left arm and both ankles were also seared. She was removed to the home of her son, Claude Tinder, where every care is being administered. It may be several days before the extent of her burns are known.

MRS. SARAH TINDER DIES AS A RESULT OF BURNS

Widow of Former Clerk of Circuit Court Expires - Funeral to Be Held Monday

Mrs. Sarah E. TINDER, aged eighty years, widow of the late John H. Tinder, former clerk of the Jackson Circuit Court, died at the home of her son, Claude Tinder, in Cortland, this morning at 9:30 o'clock. Her death was caused by burns which she suffered Sunday, December 3, while starting a fire in a stove at her home in Cortland.

Mrs. TINDER was born in Hart County, KY, May 29, 1842, and came to Jackson County about fifty years ago. Her husband died June 17, 1918.

She was a life long member of the Methodist church, was a kind and loving neighbor and was ever ready to help others suffering from afflictions.

She is survived by one son, Claude Tinder, of Cortland, four grandchildren, two brothers, John Manion, of Brownstown, and Charles Manion, of Arkansas. She also leaves a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Cortland church by the Rev. William DeHart Monday morning, January 1, at 10 o'clock. Burial will be in the Cortland Cemetery.
