Rockford, IL Auto Accident Kills Three, May 1931

THREE BURNED TO DEATH IN AUTO.

Rockford, Ill., May 28. -- (AP) -- A man and two women were burned to death late yesterday when their automobile turned over and caught fire after a tire exploded. All three were trapped in the machine, a coupe, but a young girl riding in the rumble seat was thrown clear of the wreckage and seriously injured. She was taken unconscious to the Harvard hospital, at Harvard, Ill.
The car's license was issued to JUSTIN VITKUS of De Kalb, Ill.
In De Kalb, MISS MARY VITKUS, 16, his daughter, said her mother, MRS. NELLIE VITKUS, and her sister, MARCELLA, and a friend, MRS. STELLA KENDALL, had gone automobile riding with a man whose name she did not know.
