Loda, IL Train and Tanker Collision, Jan 1970


Loda, Ill. (UPI) - Two persons were killed and two injured in a fiery collision of a gasoline tank truck and an Illinois Central passenger train at a crossing in this town 20 miles west of the Indiana state line.
Authorities said the truck pulled into the path of the train and exploded on impact, showering flaming fuel over the two diesel engines.
Officials said the dead were the truck driver and a train crewman. The injured also were members of the train crew. They were hospitalized at Paxton, Ill.
Authorities said the passengers remained aboard the train. They were not hurt and the fire was confined to the engines.
