Car Rams Switch Engine Here; 5 Escape Unhurt

When William Wallschiaeger, 23, 2914 Marshall Street, was unable to stop his automobile as a switch engine crossed the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad crossing at 11th street Monday night, he and four companions escaped with minor injuries.

The driver did not see a switch engine, backing over the crossing until it was too late to stop on the slippery pavement. The machine skidded into the engine tender.

The victims, treated at the Swedish-American hospital, included the driver’s brother, Erick, 21, who escaped with minor bruises: John Stephens, 17, 3125 11th Street, who suffered painful face lacerations and the loss of several teeth; Kenneth Rogers, 23, 2914 Marshall Street, who suffered face lacerations; and Claude Cowan, 19, 3203 Bildahl Street, who escaped with minor lacerations.
