Wheaton, IL Deputies Killed in Auto Crash, Sept 1929

OFFICERS KILLED IN AUTO CRASH TAKING OFFENDER TO CELL.

Wheaton, Ill., Sept. 27.---(AP)--Two Du Page county deputies were killed near here Friday night and a motorist they had arrested on a charge of drunken driving was injured when the automobile in which they were riding upset in a ditch.

The dead:

Chief Deputy Sheriff Leonard Gordon and Deputy Ralph Roy.

Adolph Gall, 50 year old farmer, whom they had arrested, was injured. He said he knew nothing of what happened after his arrest until he was found dazed in the overturned car which had been driven by Gordon.

Apparently Gordon and Roy were taking Gall to the sheriff's office when the steering mechanism broke and sent the automobile careening into the ditch.
