Waukegan, IL Stumbled Carrying Scissors, Aug 1945
Boy, 3, Dies From Stab By Scissors
Waukegan, Ill., Aug. 5-(AP)-TOMMY HOVEY, 3, asked his mother for a pair of scissors to cut some flowers.
“I want to go out in the back yard and cut some for the table,” he said. “They’re so pretty.” With a warning to be careful, his mother, Mrs. Elmer Hovey, gave the tot the scissors.
A short time later, hearing a cry, she found Tommy crumpled on the back steps. Blood was flowing from an ugly wound on his neck where he had stumbled and stabbed himself.
He died in a hospital a half-hour later, his right lung perforated.
