Big Fire In Coeur D’Alene.

Planing Mill and Lumber Yards Destroyed and the Town Threatened.

Spokane, Washington, Aug. 8.-A hot fire has been raging in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, since morning. The entire town has turned out to fight the flames, and part of Spokane’s Fire Department has been summoned by special train.

The big planing mill and yards of the Coeur d’Alene Lumber Company have been destroyed and the fire is eating its way through heaps of rubbish toward the company’s sawmill. The loss so far is reckoned at $75,000. Unless a high wind arises it is believed the town will be saved.

Coeur D’Alene Visited By A Disastrous Fire

Spokane, Wash., Aug. 8.-A hot fire has been raging in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, since about 8:30 a.m. The entire town turned out to fight the flames and part of Spokane’s fire department was sent up by special train.

The only loss will be the planing mill of the Coeur d’Alene Lumber company and the lumber yards, making a total loss of $40,000. Fire is still burning in the huge piles of drift and rubbish along the lake front and may continue three or four days. A canal is being blasted through this drift to protect the sawmill.

The boiler of the mill exploded and a flying fragment struck A. Bartlett, cutting off his leg below the knee.

Lumber Mill Fire At Coeur D’Alene City

Spokane, Aug. 8.-Fire today destroyed the planing mill and yards of the Coeur d’Alene Lumber company at Coeur d’Alene City, Idaho. The loss is $75,000. The entire town was threatened.
