72 ANIMALS BURNED TO DEATH IN ATLANTA

Livery and Sales Company Destroyed---Hotels Scorched.

ATLANTA, Jan. 18.---Seventy-two horses and mules were burned to death here tonight in a fire which destroyed the stables of the Vittur Livery and Sales company and slightly damaged the Marietta and Gem hotels, located in the business section.

Charles Thompson, a negro driver, trapped on the third floor of the livery stable, leaped from a window into the street and was probably fatally injured.

The totol loss was estimated at $60,000, partially insured. The fire is thought to have been caused by a defective flue. Gasoline stored in the rear of the stables exploded.
