Adair, GA Boiler Explosion, June 1897

THREE KILLED, FIVE HURT.

Adair, Ga., June 30. -- The boiler of an engine attached to a threshing machine exploded Tuesday afternoon, killing three men instantly and fatally injuring four others, while another man had his leg broken, necessitating amputation. The cause of the explosion was low water in the boiler.
All the dead and injured are white except one.
The dead are:
TOM WEEKS.
ALEXANDER WARWICK.
SAM MILLS (colored).
Those fatally wounded:
D. C. HAMBY.
E. HAMBY.
SHADE TOWERS.
ZACK KING.
Badly injured:
CLARENCE BRANCH, leg broken and had to be amputated.
