75 FIREMEN OVERCOME IN ATLANTA DRUG BLAZE.
Atlanta, Dec. 30. (AP) -- Authorities sought a clue today to the type and origin of fumes which overcame 75 firemen, sending 52 to hospitals, while they fought a stubborn basement blaze in a drug store for eight hours early Sunday.
As the gases poured up from the smoldering sub-floor stockroom, the firemen dropped one by one. At least 27 received emergency treatment at the scene at one time, but there were no fatalities.
Ambulances made repeated roundtrips to hospitals, reminiscent of the scene at the city's disastrous Winecoff Hotel fire Dec. 7 which claimed 119 lives.
