Lakeland, FL Bomber Crash, June 1942

1 DEAD, 7 HURT IN BOMBER CRASH.

Lakeland, Fla. -- (INS) -- Second Lieut. STEPHEN A. WOOD, 25, Raleigh, S. C., was burned to death today and seven other airmen injured when an army four-motored bomber crashed in attempting to land at Crane Field, near Lakeland.
Three commissioned officers were among the injured.
They were:
Lt. HARRY L. ARNOLD, 25, Los Angeles, Calif.
Second Lt. MURPHY K. KENTZ, 25, Cotton Valley, La.
Second Lt. JAMES H. CAREY, 24, Nashwood, Minn.
Enlisted men injured, none of them believed seriously, were listed as:
Sgt. RICHARD R. RICHMOND, 25, Keyser, W. Va.
Pvt. LOUIS B. CAMPBELL, 20, Pendleton, S.C.
Pvt. WILLIAM B. BRADFORD, 23, Los Angeles, Calif.
