CHILDREN DIE IN FIRE AT WHEELING
Special to the Courier.
Wheeling, W. V., Aug. 11 -- Escaping gas caused an explosion and fire
in the millinery store and residence of Mrs. J. S.
Gavin on South Eoff street early this morning and resulted in the
death of three
daughters
of Mrs. Gavin, the fatal injury of another person and serious injuries to six
others who were compelled to jump from third story window to save their lives.
The children were suffocated as they slept. The flames broke out
immediately after the explosion and escape was almost impossible. The
property loss was $10,000.
