Middlefield, CT Drownings, Jul 1849
Sad Disaster.--The New Haven Palladium records that two young ladies, residing near Middletown, Ct., were drowned in a pond in the adjoining parish of Middlefield, on Tuesday, under very sad circumstances. They had strayed away from a picnic party to which they belonged, when one slid down the bank into the water; the other rushed to rescue her, but failed and both perished. The first was to have been married the next evening, and her intended husband, who had come from New York for the purpose, only the Saturday previous, was with the rest of the party at the time of the accident. The names of the parties are not given.
