Fontana, CA Auto Crashes Into Abutment, Aug 1963

SEVEN KILLED IN CAR.

THREE BOYS INJURED CRITICALLY IN CALIFORNIA CRASH.

Fontana, Calif. (AP) - A station wagon carrying a man and nine children crashed into a concrete abutment on the San Bernardino Freeway yesterday, killing seven of them.
The driver, FORREST LEWIS, 41, Los Angeles, had just passed a truck trailer when he apparently fell asleep and failed to straighten out.
Killed were FORREST LEWIS, JR., 15; ROBERT JOHNSON, 10; DAVID CRAWFORD, 15; OTIS JONES, 12; DARRELL DENNIS, 13; and CHARLES WRIGHT, 16, all of Los Angeles.
Injured, all 13, were CHARLES JOHNSON, LARRY SCALES and CLARENCE JONES.
