ULTRALIGHT PLANE PILOT DIES IN CRASH.

Cloverdale, Calif. - The pilot of a single-engine ultralight aircraft was killed Saturday when his plane crashed during a landing approach at Cloverdale Municipal Airport, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department reported.
The pilot was identified as DAVID PICKERING, 34, of Healdsburg, Calif. Witnesses at the airport said PICKERING'S plane appeared to lose control as it approached the airport at about noon, said sheriff's deputy Vincent Doherty.
Patrol units, a helicopter and fire engines responded to the scene of the crash, about a mile east of the airport, Doherty said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
