Fort Tejon, CA Helicopter Crash, June 1986
VIN SCULLY'S SON KILLED IN CRASH.
The son of prominent sports broadcaster Vin Scully was among two men killed in a helicopter crash Thursday as they patrolled an oil pipeline near Fort Tejon, Calif. checking for earthquake damage. MICHAEL SCULLY, 33, of Bakersfield, was an engineering supervisor for Four Corners Pipe Line Inc., a subsidiary of Arco Oil Co. SCULLY was the passenger in the helicopter. The Kern County Coroner's Office said the pilot is believed to be a 52-year-old Bakersfield man. The helicopter apparently was trying to land at an Arco pumping facility west of Interstate 5 and northwest of Fort Tejon.
