Holbrook, AZ (near) Auto And Truck Crash, Dec 1957
SIX KILLED IN ARIZONA CRASH.
Holbrook, Ariz. (AP) - Six persons were killed and two injured critically yesterday in a grinding car-truck collision of U.S. 66 about 25 miles east of this northeastern Arizona town.
Four of the dead, all occupants of the automobile, were Indiana residents.
They were identified as:
LESTER B. JONES, 44, of Hobart;
CAROL MILDRED PORT, 45, of Hobart;
JANET L. PORT, about 13, of Hobart;
and FRANK E. PORT, 17, a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
The Arizona highway patrol said the young marine carried leave papers and was apparently on his way home to spend Christmas with his family.
Two passengers in the pickup truck, both Navajos, were killed. They were TSOSIE SHIRLEY, 45, of Sanders, and DAVID SIX, 40, of Pine Springs.
The driver of the truck, WILLIE SIX, 20, and another passenger, AMOS BEGAY, 22, both of Pine Springs were critically hurt.
Highway Patrolman Glen Flake said the truck apparently swerved into the path of the car. They smashed head-on. Flake said there were no skid marks and estimated the speed of both vehicles at about 50 miles an hour.
