Valdez, AK Flood, Jul 1905
HOMES ARE SWEPT AWAY BY FRESHETS.
Disastrous floods in the neighborhood of Valdez are reported in special cable advices received yesterday from the North by Maj. Glassford. There has been no loss of life, but fifty cabins were swept away and fully a mile of poles washed out. When repairs can be made is problematical. The wire received here indicates that the raging streams threaten still further trouble. The dispatch to Maj. Glassford, dated July 1, is as follows:
"About a mile of poles were washed out by very high glacier streams. Fifty cabins were swept away. Streams are somewhat checked now, but it is uncertain how long they can be curbed. It is impracticable to make repairs on the loop at present. The course of the streams is erratic.
