Big Delta, AK Automobile Accident, Oct 1951

WOMAN KILLED, MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN WRECK.

BULLETIN
Big Delta - MRS. LILA WINER, one of two persons injured in an accident here this morning, died shortly before noon today.

Two persons were critically injured early today when a Buick sedan plunged head-on into a military school bus at the Jarvis Creek Bridge one mile south of Big Delta.
Critically injured were MORRIS WINER, a civilian employee of the Big Delta Base, and his wife LILA WINER. Both were picked up by a Tenth Rescue Squadron helicopter and rushed to an air force hospital.
A third passenger of the Buick automobile, Sergeant BILL ALLEN of Big Delta, was not injured in the wreck. The driver of the bus, PFC. RICHARD DE JOHN, and the one passenger with him at the time of the wreck, SGT. CLARENCE R. HOWARD, also escaped injury.
According to the highway patrol, the two vehicles collided head-on, just as the bus was leaving the narrow bridge. Since the bus was just starting out to pick up children, none were yet aboard it. The accident occurred at about 7:55 a.m. this morning.
Damage to the Buick was estimated at about $2000.
