6 DEAD, 4 HURT IN MINE BLAST

Gas Pocket Is Ignited at Colliery Near Birmingham, Ala.

Birmingham, Ala., June 13.--Six men were killed and four injured by a pocket gas explosion at Banner coal mine shortly after noon today. The mine is located in the western part of Jefferson county. It is owned by the Pratt Consolidated Company but is operated by the State convict department.

The dead are: WILL KIMBROUGH, JOHN ROGERS, ROBERT MORRIS, COUNCIL STEVENS, AMOS CRUMP and ED TAYLOR, all colored.

The injured: Lively Vandiver, white, J. D. Worrell, white, and Will Smith and Smith Williams, colored. All were convicts except the two white men.
